📇 Facilitator Field Card: Safety & Fidelity Protocol
Purpose: To provide Peer Facilitators with a rapid-response framework for maintaining the “Educational Bridge” and ensuring participant safety without crossing into clinical therapy.
🚦 The Signal System
🟢 Green: Operational Flow
- Status: Participant is engaged, sharing within the scope of the session, and respecting group boundaries.
- Action: Continue with the curriculum script. Focus on active listening and peer validation.
🟡 Yellow: The Drift (Caution)
- Status: Participant begins “Trauma Dumping” (intense, unregulated detail), monopolizing time, or showing signs of moderate emotional distress.
- Action: Soft Redirect. * Script: “I hear the weight of that, and it’s a vital part of the story, but to honor everyone’s time and the session’s goal, let’s bring it back to [Current Topic]. Let’s chat for a minute after the session.”
- Protocol: Document the drift in the after-action report.
đź”´ Red: Emergency Handoff (Stop)
- Status: Ideation of self-harm, threats of violence, or a total psychological “shut down” (dissociation).
- Action: Immediate Transition.
- Script: “I’m going to pause the group for a five-minute break. [Name], let’s step outside with [Co-Facilitator/Staff] to make sure you’re supported right now.”
- Protocol: Follow the pre-arranged Clinical Warm Handoff to the on-call specialist or VA crisis line.
🛡 Drift Correction Protocol
- Stay in the “What”: If the conversation moves into “Why did this happen to me?” (Therapy), pull it back to “What do we do now?” (Skills/Action).
- The Peer Barrier: Remind the group: “I am a guide on this path because I’ve walked it, not a doctor. We are here to build the gear, not perform the surgery.”
